Critical and creative thinking are often seen as widely differing cognitive approaches.  Academics tend to favor the critical over the creative, with an emphasis on analysis and argument.  The business world highlights the creative over the critical, with its concern for imagination and innovation.  These two aspects of thinking, however, are complementary and mutually reinforcing.  In order to become strong thinkers, we need to develop our skills with both types of thinking.

Join us for two interactive presentation/workshops in which we explore these mutually reinforcing approaches to improved thinking practices.

ROBERT DIYANNI is a professor of humanities at New York University and an instructional consultant in the NYU Center for the Advancement of Teaching.  He has written extensively on the teaching of literature and writing, interdisciplinary humanities, and critical and creative thinking.  Among his books are Connections, Literature, Modern American Poets, Arts and Culture, The Pearson Guide to Critical and Creative Thinking, and most recently, Critical and Creative Thinking: A Brief Guide for Teachers (Wiley-Blackwell).
