SUMMARY:"Improve Your Critical and Creative Thinking" with Dr. DiYanni
DESCRIPTION:Critical and creative thinking are often seen as widely differi
ng cognitive approaches.  Academics tend to favor the critical over the c
reative\, with an emphasis on analysis and argument.  The business world
highlights the creative over the critical\, with its concern for imaginati
on and innovation.  These two aspects of thinking\, however\, are complem
entary and mutually reinforcing.  In order to become strong thinkers\, we
need to develop our skills with both types of thinking.\n\nJoin us for tw
o interactive presentation/workshops in which we explore these mutually re
inforcing approaches to improved thinking practices.\n\nROBERT DIYANNI is
a professor of humanities at New York University and an instructional cons
ultant in the NYU Center for the Advancement of Teaching.  He has written
extensively on the teaching of literature and writing\, interdisciplinary
humanities\, and critical and creative thinking.  Among his books are Co
nnections\, Literature\, Modern American Poets\, Arts and Culture\, The Pe
arson Guide to Critical and Creative Thinking\, and most recently\, Critic
al and Creative Thinking: A Brief Guide for Teachers (Wiley-Blackwell).\n\
